Approximately one and a half decades ago, aerospace firms initiated focused efforts on large-scale methane propulsion systems. Today, SpaceX and Blue Origin produce the leading examples—Raptor and BE-4—both delivering over 500,000 pounds of propulsion force. SpaceX employs 39 Raptor units to drive its Starship and its massive first stage, whereas Blue Origin's New Glenn and United Launch Alliance's Vulcan utilize a reduced count of BE-4 engines in their primary boosters.
